We all know that necklaces come in various lengths, but do you know what all the lengths are CALLED?
I didn't, until I read an article in a recent issue of Bead and Button magazine. Here are the standard lengths, according to the magazine:
Choker--13 to 16 inches
Princess--17 to 19 inches
Matinee--20 to 24 inches
Opera--28 to 32 inches
Lariat or rope--more than 40 inches
Most of the necklaces I make are either very long--60 inches--or have two strands, one choker length and the other a few inches longer. I guess the second strand would be "matinee" length, but I'll have to measure one of my finished necklaces to be sure. I just make it a length that looks right.
All of my necklaces, except for the 60-inch ones, have a 2- to 3-inch extender chain to give a perfect fit for most women.
