New Earrings for Sale: SOLD

Even though my blog is called Charmed Bracelets, and I do love bracelets, I'm one of those women who doesn't feel dressed if I'm not wearing earrings. 

This has been true ever since I pierced my ears myself with a big needle and a potato at the age of 16. (I froze my lobes first with a piece of ice.) This method is not recommended, by the way, even though my ears healed up just fine.

I've been making earrings for as long as I've been making bracelets, but haven't had any on this blog until now. Here are several styles that I have for sale:

Dramatic Earrings

There are some days when--no question--you need a dramatic pair of earrings.

This style has the asymmetry  of the number three than you find in many arts, including Japanese ikebana, or  flower arranging. 

The gemstone rondelles dangle inside linked sterling silver rings and are quite dramatic without being too flashy. I have these available in red agate, carnelian, black onyx, green jade, or turquoise. The ear wires are also sterling silver.  

Price: $40.

After the Ball ...

The ball is over, but I'm still in Nebraska. (And my feet hurt, although not from dancing. I stood for about nine hours straight yesterday, and I'm not used to that.)

I have a lot to write about Nebraska and about the ball, and photos to post, but it is going to take me a few days to get to all of it.

What to Say When a Friend Has Cancer 

I did sell some jewelry, although not as much as I had hoped I would. I think people are feeling the $-pinch everywhere, although the Cattlemen (and -women) are a pretty well-to-do group.

I have a couple of pieces to make alterations to (like switching the type of ear wires), and I'll be doing that over the next day or two. 

Monica, who came along to take photos and to help me at my jewelry booth at the ball, had to fly back to Seattle tonight, Sunday, but I get to stay till Tuesday. I'm planning to spend some more time at the library tomorrow with Teri, and we are going to go to her favorite bead store in Omaha and also to look for vintage charms in the downtown Omaha antique stores. 

Teri has been a great host. She's really thought of everything--even buying us a stack of magazines about Nebraska so we could learn more about the place we're visiting. I loved that!

Custom-made 'Lost Earring' Charm Bracelets

I've worn pierced earrings since high school, and over the years I've managed to lose a lot of earrings, leaving me with one of a pair. 

My jewelry box was full of these "orphans," but I couldn't bear to throw them out--typically they were from a pair that was once my favorite.

Then I got the idea to recycle these "lost earrings" into one-of-a-kind charm bracelets. The earrings gain new life on the bracelet, which is sterling silver, and the wearer has all the memories captured in the earrings dangling from her wrist. 

I make special-order lost earring charm bracelets using your own "lost earrings." The great thing about these is how different each bracelet looks, and how personal it is to the owner. 

If you would like me to make you a lost earring charm bracelet, send me between five and eight "lost earrings." I also need your wrist measurement, since I will be making the bracelet just for you. 

Once I've played with your earrings for a bit I will e-mail you a couple of design ideas to pick from, and then once you've decided I'll make your bracelet and mail it to you. 

I usually work in sterling silver, but if your earrings are mostly gold, I will probably combine gold and silver in your bracelet. 

Cost: $80 to $100, depending on the style.

'Give Cancer the BOOT!' Bracelets

The theme for this year's Cattlemen's Ball is "give cancer the boot!" and I decided to make some fun bracelets to reflect that theme. 

I found some sterling silver letter C charms online (remember the days when cancer was referred to as "the big C"? that's where the C comes from), and also some great cowboy boots. 

The two charms dangle together from a bracelet of glass beads. 

Price: $40. 

I have a half-dozen of these in various lengths. 

June 7 Update: I sold several of these at the Cattlemen's Ball, although not the one in the photo. I love these glass beads, so I will probably take this one apart and remake it into something else. A necklace, maybe.

Romantic Lost Earring Charm Bracelet: SOLD

This beautiful, one-of-a-kind bracelet features a very special "lost earring" on a double-chain bracelet: one handmade sterling chain with garnet beads and one strand of delicate sterling chain. 

The heart charm is a silver "lost earring" set with tiny diamonds. The bracelet closes with a sterling toggle clasp.

The two lost earring charm bracelets pictured here are a rich combination of amber, garnet, sterling silver, mother of pearl, and glass beads plus lost earring charms. The bracelets have a pleasantly heavy feel on the wrist and are sized for large wrists. The bracelets measure about 8 inches.

A Gift for Teri

My host while I'm in Nebraska is my good friend and fellow cancer blogger, Teri, also known as The Cheeky Librarian. (See: Cheeky Librarian)

Teri visited me in Seattle last summer for the Cancer Bloggers Reunion, and we had an incredible time. 

So I wanted to make Teri a very special bracelet as a thank you present. 

This is the first time that I've made a chain from jump rings, and I'm pretty happy with how this one looks. It is double links of largish (9 mm) rings, and closes with a handmade clasp. 

Two of the charms are vintage: The little map of Nebraska dates to the 1960s or '70s, when such charms were a popular travel souvenir. The pickup truck is probably only about 10 years old, but it has a nice feel to it. It's a well-made charm. 

The steer is actually a zodiac charm (for the Year of the Ox, I guess), but it looks right on a bracelet to commemorate the Cattlemen's Ball!
